On Tuesday, October 27th, the Washtenaw County Road Commission re-opened the Arkona Road Bridge, located west of Maple Road in Saline Tonwship. The bridge had closed to all traffic in November 2014 due to a structural failure when heavy farming equipment traveled over the bridge and a portion collapsed.
Work completed during the project included demolition of the failed short-span bridge, construction and placement of an aluminum box culvert and guardrails.
The Arkona Bridge replacement project is one of several collaborations between the Washtenaw County Road Commission and Lenawee County Road Commission. To learn more about this partnership visit http://wcroads.org/node/3885
The Washtenaw County Road Commission offers our sincere thanks to the area residents, farmers, motorists, postal services, emergency services and school districts who displayed a great deal of patience during the closure of Arkona Road Bridge.
