(Submitted by City of Saline Manager Todd Campbell)
The next major traffic shift has been fully implemented as of this afternoon.
The eastbound Michigan Ave traffic is now detouring at Monroe Street, south to Henry Street, east to Old Creek Drive, and north back to Michigan Ave. The various crews are working very diligently to make sure that all of the proper traffic controls are in place (temporary traffic signals working properly, appropriate signs and pavement markings are installed, etc.) and the transition to the new traffic shift is as smooth as can be expected.
It will take a few days for traffic to acclimate to the new detour route. City staff encourages the motoring public traveling through Saline and the detour route to be patient with one another, be observant of pedestrians and the detour signage. If everyone takes a few moments and pays attention to the detour signs and traffic signals, we are hopeful that traffic will flow fairly well; relative to the fact that there is a significant construction project going on. As with many construction projects we should be prepared for traffic delays, so please plan accordingly. Thank you for your continued patience.
Note: For westbound traffic wanting to turn left onto Monroe Street, there is a turning lane on Michigan Ave to help in alleviating thru traffic slowdowns for the westbound thru-traffic. Also, the westbound traffic waiting to turn left onto Monroe are required to yield to the oncoming eastbound traffic.
Remember to visit our local Saline businesses during and after this great project and look for the Pave It Forward logo and the fun promotions that are currently going on!
