Well, it’s been the buzz for more than 18 months, the Michigan Ave reconstruction project is finally here!  The Michigan Ave project includes the investment of more than $11 million in infrastructure improvements here in Saline – what an exciting opportunity for our community!  MDOT has selected a contractor, Hoffman Bros. located in Battle Creek, Michigan and they will begin preliminary work on Monday, April 25th.  City of Saline staff attended the pre-construction meeting this morning and here is the schedule for the next two weeks (weather permitting):

Week of April 25th:
Pre-Stage work consists of temporary widening along the north side of US-12.  Westbound traffic will be reduced to one through lane from the Point of Beginning (POB) at the bridge deck to Lewis St.; no impact to eastbound traffic.

Week of May 2nd
Shift traffic to the north half of the roadway and maintain one lane in each direction from POB to Lewis St.  This stage will be in place until roughly the end of May.  Work to include – pavement removal, installation of temporary barrier wall, centerline sheeting and trenching.

Note:  The DTE gas main relocation and installation of new power poles is scheduled to be completed in the next two weeks.  Also, the Henry Street detour for eastbound Michigan Ave traffic is not scheduled to be implemented until sometime in late May 2016.

Please stay tuned for updates as the Michigan Ave project moves forward.  The City of Saline staff will be providing a minimum of weekly updates and sometimes daily depending on what is taking place in the construction zone.
