Emileen Palka

What do you teach: 6th grade

School: Saline Middle School

Hometown: Temperance, MI

College: Indiana Tech

Describe your previous teaching or career experience: This is my first year teaching. I graduated from Indiana Tech last May where I earned my degree and played college volleyball.

Why did you decide on teaching as a profession? I decided to make teaching a profession for me because I have a passion for teaching and I enjoy working with people on a daily basis and being able to help students become strong, independent learners. I grew up in an educational environment and I always gravitated towards teaching and coaching younger students knowing I can have a positive influence on their lives.

Describe a satisfying moment on the job: When something clicks with a student and they reach a point where they are confident with themselves and their learning.

Who was your favorite teacher? Why? A teacher that I remember to this day that left a mark is my high school social studies teacher. He made his class fun and the content intriguing. I enjoyed how passionate he was about learning and teaching!

What’s something about you that might surprise your students? I am very competitive when it comes to sports and I love competing with my brothers!

How do you like to spend your time away from class? I like to enjoy time with my family friends, workout, play sports and travel.

What’s your impression of Saline Area Schools since accepting the position? I love the community of educators here at Saline Area Schools and I have felt welcomed and relied on from my first day. I have gotten a tremendous amount of help and support from my administrators, mentors, co-workers and I am very grateful for that.
