Mike Monahan drove in the game's first run and had a hit in the inning in which Saline scored its second run.

Saline finished the SEC Red season with a 2-1 victory at Pioneer High School. The Hornets, who clinched the SEC Red championship for the fifth straight season after Monday’s doubleheader sweep, finished the season with a 14-1 record.

Saline scored runs in the second and fourth inning off starter John Kunec, who walked five and gave up six hits in six innings of work.

Cole Daniels started and pitched two perfect innings before giving way to Richard Hovde, who pitched a scoreless. Zach Schwartzenberger, who gave up a run on one hit and one walk in one inning’s work, was credited with the victory. Sean Millspaugh earned the save, walking one and striking out one in a scoreless seventh.

In all, five Saline pitchers allowed just three hits.

In the second, Cole Daniels singled with two out. Pinch runner Ryan Foley took second on a wild pitch and scored on Mike Monahan’s single.

In the top of the fourth Saline got in some trouble. Ted Eppinga walked the lead off hitter but erased him with a 1-6-3 doubleplay. Eppinga walked JG Nwogu and John Kunec. Kellen Huang came into the game and struck out Jackson Hawkins to end the threat.

The bottom half of the order did the job again in the fourth. With one out Richard Hovde and Daniels walked. Monahan reached on an infield single. Garrett Marion drove in the game’s second run with a sacrifice fly to center.

Pioneer scored in the sixth. Schwartzenberger walked lead-off hitter Nick Arrivo. He took second on a wild pitch and then went to third on a flyball. Arrivo scored on a single by Kunec.

Millspaugh allowed a two-out walk in the seventh but struck out Brian Guo to end the game.
