Baseball: Saline Splits With Toledo St. Francis

Sean O'Keefe returned to the mound Saturday and pitched four strong innings for the victory against St. Francis.

The Saline varsity baseball team split a doubleheader with Toledo St. Francis Saturday.

Saline lost the opener, 5-1 and won the second game, 3-1.

St. Francis used a 4-run fifth inning to put the Hornets away in the first game.

Ted Eppinga took the loss, going five innings and giving up five runs, two earned, on six hits and no walks. He struck out four.

The Hornets made three errors, including two in the four-run fifth.

Tyler Zmich pitched two hitless and scoreless innings for Saline. He struck out two and walked none.

At the plate, Saline managed just four hits. Ryan Foley (2-for-3) had two of them. Richard Hovde and Jake Finkbeiner also had hits. Saline's run came in the bottom of the fifth. Kellen Huang walked with the bases loaded to bring in Stevie Kise.

Toledo scored first in the second game, tagging starter Sean O'Keefe for a run. It was the only run O'Keefe allowed.

Saline struck back in the second when Garrett Marion drove in Justin Flanagan and Mike Monahan with a single.

Meanwhile, O'Keefe settled in on the mount, holding St. Francis without a baserunner in the second and third.

Stevie Kise made it 3-1 with a home run over the fence in left in the bottom of the fourth.

Zach Schwartzenberger relieved O'Keee in the fifth and pitched three scoreless innings for the save.
