The Saline High School Drama Club wrapped up Guys and Dolls in front of a big crowd at the Ellen A. Ewing Performing Arts Center Sunday.
The young cast from Saline breathed new life into the classic romantic comedy, based on a story and characters by Damon Runyon.
Jon Firehammer starred as Sky Masterson, the tough-guy gangster who has a change of heart when he falls for missionary Sarah Brown, played by co-star Caitlin Sundquist. Both brought wonderful voices to their featured roles.
Where Firehammer and Sundquist wowed with their voices, fellow co-stars Hallie Fox and Connor Carlson brought the laughs as Nathan Detroit and Miss Adelaide. Carlson played a hapless gangster who lived to play craps with the boys. Fox played a Broadway dancer who's becoming impatient after waiting 14 years to marry him. Their scenes popped with chemistry.
As promised, the "Hot Box" dancer scenes sizzled on stage. Firehammer and the "crapshooters ensemble" earned applause for their rendition of "Luck Be a Lady."
Guys and Dolls was directed by Kristen Glatz (artistic director/producer), Sarah Price (vocal), Jane Pannikar (orchestra) and Danielle Clevenger (choreographer).
