Larson Leads Saline to 14th Consecutive Regional XC Title

Jessi Larson ran one of the best races in her life and all seven Lady Hornets won all-region honors as Saline won its 14th straight regional championship Saturday at Lake Erie Metropark.

Larson, a sophomore, was followed by seniors Hannah Cummings and Gillian Walter as Saline posted a 1-2-3 finish. The Hornets finished with 22 points. Monroe was a distant second with 69 points.

Larson won the race in 17:55.10, the second fastest time of her career and the fastest time ever recorded by a Saline girl at a regional meet. Larson run the race by 98 seconds.

Cummings was second in 19:33.7 and Walter was third in 19:48.7. Regan Smith was fifth in 19:58 and Holly Treber was 11th in 20:06.3 to account for the Lady Hornets’ scoring. Alexa Reyst was 12th in 20.16.5 and Danielle Fillmore was 14th in 20:17.5.

Last week the Lady Hornets won their 20th straight SEC Red championship.

The Lady Hornets race at the state meet at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7 at Michigan International Speedway.
