Skyline edged Saline, 70-67, in a girls varsity track and field action Tuesday at Saline High School. The The Eagles raced to victory in the sprints took three out of four relays to win the meet.
Saline dominated the distance races.
Senior Hannah Cummings won the 800 in 2:22.2. Her freshman sister Emma was second in 2:25.58. Rebecca Cantrell (2:27) was fourth and Regan Smith (2:30) was fifth.
Jessi Larson won the 1600 in 5:20.57. Smith was second in 5:26.76 and Gillian Walter was third in 5:29.54. Saline took 10 of the top 11 places in the race.
Saline’s amazing distance running depth was highlighted again in the 3200. Freshman Kayla Fortino won the race in 11:50.56. Saline took the top seven spots and 13 of the top 14 places. Regan Barsch (11:51) was second and Larson (11:52) was third. They were followed in by Walter, Kyra Ross, Alexa Stern and Holly Treber.
The Hornets’ only other victory on the track came in the 4-by-8, where Saline had relay teams go 1-2-3.
In the field Lauren Sayre won high jump with a leap of 4-10. Nia Lancit was third at 4-08. Alexander Haugen and Skyler Hardt tied for first in pole vault at 9-06. Catherine Dager won the long jump (16-03.5).
Erin Connor settled for second in the shotput. She threw 35-11. Charde Madoulah-Bey went 39-06. She also won the discus with a throw of 129-03. Connor was second at 121. Vic Black was fourth at 95-09.
Skyline swept the sprints. Chloe Foster took the 100, 200 and 400 for Skyline. In the 100, Dager was third at 14.02 and Andrea Luurtsema was fifth at 14.23. In the 200 Dager was third (28.33) and Brooke Wilczynski was fifth (29.51). Hannah Cummings was second in the 400 (1:02). Yasmine Lajimi was fourth (1:04).
