21st Annual Saline Celtic Festival
10 a.m. to midnight (opening ceremony at 11 a.m.), Saturday, July 9 at Mill Pond Park.
Music from Bill Grogan’s Goat, Stone Clover, Corktown Popes, Dragon Wagon, Equinox, Brother Crowe, Roane, Peat in the Creel, Finvarra’s Wren, Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic, Blue Caledonia, and Ann Arbor Celtic Harpers.
Stages will host the Tartan and Thistle Scottish Country Dancers, Damhsa Ulsce Ban Mor, Celtic Jam, Commonwealth Dance Collective, Irish Dance Company of Lansing, Emerald Irish Dance Company, Dancin’ Feet School of Gaelic Culture and Dance, Ann Arbor Morris, Nutshell, and Ensoleil, and Highland dance competitions.
Amateur athletes will compete in Heavy and Light Weight for Distance, Weight Over Bar, Sheaf Toss, Caber Toss, Braemar and Open Stone; while festivalgoers can vie for prizes in the Haggis Hurl, Celtic Clobber, and Golf Chipping.
Cabar Feidh Pipes and Drums from Royal Oak, Glen Erin Pipe Band from Lansing, Grand Rapids and District Pipe Band, and the Flint Scottish Pipe Band, will lead off the opening ceremonies at 11 a.m., perform throughout the afternoon, and give a massed band performance at 5 p.m.
Also featuring jousting, re-enactments, swordplay, falconry, clans, Wee Folks Island, “Millie the Mill Pond Monster,” sheepdog herding, textile weaving, Celtic merchants, and more.
Tickets at the gate: $5 for ages 13 to 17, $15 for adults, ($10 online and groups of 10 $80 online), and $10 for ages 65 and up. Free for ages 12 and under, and active military.
