Despite Low Turnout and Lukewarm Local Support, County Voters Approve Special Education Millage

The few voters in Saline who turned out to vote weren’t especially keen on it, but county voters approved the 1.5-mill property tax increase proposed by the Washtenaw County Intermediate School District. This should provide Saline Area Schools with about $2.8 million a year annually.

City Manager Campbell noted that for the first time in a few years, the city’s projected expenditures (for fiscal year 2017) exceed their revenues. The gap is $249,000.  Reasons for lower revenue include an increase in state mandated personal property tax exemptions, and reduced state revenue sharing. New expenditures include a one-time cost for the Michigan Avenue Streetscape Project and the increased annual cost of fire protection.
