Saline Hockey Team Falls 5-0 to Pioneer

A the Saline Hornets hockey team fell 5-0 to Pioneer Saturday at the Ice Cube. The Hornets were badly outshot in a chippy game that resulted in a lot of power plays – mostly for Pioneer. Goalie Alex Colarossi faced more than 40 shots.

“We’re beat up physically and mentally right now,” said head coach Drew Denzin. “The upcoming break is coming at the right time.”

The Hornets were without co-captain Dino Tzavaras, who is out with an injury. Saline hosts Southgate Anderson Monday night, looking to avenge a 3-1 loss on Dec. 12.

Wrestling Team 3rd at Grand Rapids Northview

The Saline Hornets wrestled hard and won 3rd place at the Northview Tournament in Grand Rapids on Saturday.

The day started with a solid win against Hudsonville (54-24),followed with wins over West Catholic (72-4), and Gull Lake (72-12). They lost to Hamilton (24-38). Saline finished with a tough match and win over Ottawa West (39-33)for third place.

Kevin Fuller (103), Adam Bruley (125), and Nate O'Sullivan (135) all went 5-0 for the day. Taylor Ticknor (112 & 119) and Alex Cornelius (152 & 160) went 4-1 for the day. Kyle Boxeth (103 & 112), Ryan Wellings (160), and Brandon Helle (189) went 3-1 for the day.

Cheerleading Team 5th at CCCAM

The Saline Hornets Competitive Cheerleading team was fifth at the CCCAM Invitational Saturday with 641.58 points.

Overall the girls showed improvement in each round this week., according to coach Lisa Vaughan.

The team is led by seniors Avery Champagne, Holly Johnson and Maddy Maury.
