The Foundation for Saline Area Schools is hosting its annual winter fundraiser at the Lake Forest Golf Club on Friday, Feb. 8, from 6 to10 p.m.. This year's event features a strolling dinner with food provided by fine area restaurants, a live auction led by Dave Helmer, music, games, and a guest appearance by Tony Scheffler of the Detroit Lions.
The foundation is unveiling its strategic grant for the coming year. “Love of Language” will introduce foreign language instruction to the kindergarten through third grades, starting in fall 2013. Fourth through sixth grades will be phased in over the course of the next several years. The goal is to increase cognitive skills and develop proficiency by starting at the elementary level and offering language instruction through high school.
In recent year's the foundation has supported major new education initiatives, including classroom libraries and new science, technology, math and engineering program.
“The Saline community has always been enthusiastic about the foundation’s efforts,” said Cheryl Hoeft, president of the foundation. “This year’s strategic grant allows us to continue the work the foundation has done in its twenty five years of operation. The 'Love of Language' grant benefits every age group and every student and will have a lasting and positive effect on learning in our community.”
Pam Dahlmann, the foundation's events committee chair, said the Snowblast is an opportunity to have a great night out on the town while giving something back to the community.
“The Snowblast is just before Valentine’s Day, so it’s a perfect night out and a terrific way to support the school system and the “Love of Language” grant,” Dahlmann said.
Tickets are $25 per person/$40 per couple and are available for advance purchase only. They may be purchased online at the FSAS website and at the Saline Community Education office at Liberty School (734) 429-8020.
