The Saline Hornet bowling teams opened the 2012-13 season with lopsided victories over their opponents from Pioneer Monday at Colonial Lanes in Ann Arbor.
The boys’ team won with a 30-0 sweep. The girls nearly pulled off the sweep, winning 29-1.
The boys’ team won both Baker games, 169-102 and 188-73. Then they swept the match play games. Saline’s worst score in the first game was 159, seven points better than Pioneer’s best.
Chris Graber led the team with a 235. Bill Poet bowled a 214. Rigel Yax (191), Sean Flavin (180) and Brandon Martin (159) bowled for Saline. Saline finished with 980 points. Pioneer only had four bowlers and finished with a 447.
The Hornets weren’t as sharp in the second match. Martin improved to a 186 to lead the team. Poet (180), Graber (166), Yax (134) and Jacob Learman (126) also bowled for Saline, which won 792-460.
The Lady Hornets also swept the Baker games, edging Pioneer 139-131 in the first game and 155-100 in the second game.
The Hornets were led by all-state bowler Sidney Ohl, who was the high scorer in both matches. In the first game, she bowled a 181. Wendy Szuminski bowled a strong 151. Tabitha Baker (123), Madison Rishel (110) and Karissa Johnson (78) played for Saline, which won 643-491.
The second game was a little closer, with Ohl rolling a 171. She was followed by Szumunski (135), Alex Clark (117), and Johnson and Baker (102).
