In their first chance to make a statement since taking second at last year’s state championship meet, the Lady Hornets were loud and clear at the Brett Clement Bath Invitational Saturday.
The Hornets easily won the event, setting a team record with 28 points, as all seven girls brought home medals.
Abby Rentschler and Elianna Shwayder finished second and third overall. Rentschler finished in 18:46. Shwayder also finished under 19 minutes (18:59). Lauren Green (5th, 19”10), Alyssa Cummings (8th, 19:20) and freshman Hannah Cummings (10th, 19:22) also placed in the top 10. Gillian Water (11th, 19:24) and Grace Park (12th, 19:26) also ran well for Saline.
Coach Mike Smith noted that all seven girls set season-best times. The Hornet girls had an average time of 19:06, with just a 36-second gap between the top five and a six-second gap between the 4-7 runners.

Saline "B" Team Wins at Woodhaven
While the Lady Hornets "A" Team cruised to victory at Bath, the "B" team was nearly as dominant at the Woodhaven Invitational held at Lake Erie Metropark.
Saline put three runners in the top 5, four girls in the top 10, and all five scoring girls in the top 12.Saline's "B" team beat the "A" teams from 12 other schools. Between varsity and junior varsity girls, Saline took home 9 medals.
Haleigh Cummings was the fastest Hornet, finishing third in 20: She was followed in by Lillie Phelps (4th, 20:09), Kelly Hall (5th, 20:10), Anna Fedoronko (9th, 20:52) and Mara VanSickle (12th, 21:15).
Alexa Reyst (21:38) won the junior varsity race, finishng seven seconds faster than Katie Fedoronko.
