Elizabeth “Betty” G. Valentine, age 81, of Saline, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2014. She was surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on February 20, 1933, in Philadelphia, Penn., to the late Frank and Maude (Fry) Goff. On September 5, 1953, in Philadelphia, she married Alfred “Al” O. Valentine, of White Plains, N.Y. They were happily married for almost sixty-one years. Betty and Al spent a good portion of their retired years at their lake home, in Alpena, where they enjoyed hosting numerous family get-togethers, salmon fishing on Lake Huron, cooking, and “deering.” She was a loving mother and grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and attended many of their sporting events. She was an accomplished cross-stitcher and was well known in the community for knitting thousands of afghan squares. She also loved her Tigers and Pistons. However, above all else, Betty will be remembered for her warm heart and her love for all.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by their children Jan (Jamie) Roak and Mark (Ann), Jeff (Debbie), and Glenn (Marie) Valentine. Other survivors include her grandchildren Kate (Jason) Osbourn, Elizabeth (Richy) Kerry, Kevin Roak, and Grace, Eric, Andrew, Stacey, and Brian Valentine.

She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters, as well as by her beloved dog, Mandy.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 19, at the First Presbyterian Church located at 143 E. Michigan Ave., Saline. Her Memorial Service at the church will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 20, with the Rev. Jennifer Clark officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Alzheimer’s Disease Center at 1000 Oakbrook Ste #100 Ann Arbor, MI 48104.
