Pittsfield Township Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a barefoot suspect who fled from police during a traffic stop and then reportedly assaulted and stole a phone an Iverness Court who'd given him a pair of boots.
At about 4 a.m. Sunday, Washtenaw County Sheriff's deputies stopped a car on Textile Road near Ann Arbor Saline Road in Lodi Township. The driver fled from the scene.
Police from Pittsfield Township, Michigan State Police, and the cities of Saline and Ann Arbor helped in the search but the suspect was not located.
A short time later, a Crooked Stick Court resident reported that a suspect matching the description had knocked on his door to request use of a phone. When he was refused, he fled on foot. An Iverness Court resident of the same subdivision called police to report that a suspect matching the description The resident reportedly gave the barefoot suspect a pair of boots. The suspect then assaulted the resident and stole a telephone, according to the report.
Police converged on the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
The suspect is described as a 5'8, thin black male in his early 20s. He had curly hair that was covered in burrs when last seen, according to the report. He shed clothing during the incident that was located by a police dog and police believe he may have been shirtless.
