Virginia Lorraine Carr, age 95, passed away on Aug. 2, 2012 in Saline.
She was born on Aug. 22, 1916, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the daughter of Daniel and Amanda (Wiedmayer) Finkbeiner and grew up in Lima Township until her marriage to Hollis Bernard Carr in Ann Arbor on January 1, 1939. He preceded her in death on September 2, 1988.
Virginia lived in Saline and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was an active worker in the church in her younger years, teaching Sunday School for many years, serving on committees, and helping to prepare dinners for the public. She worked in several departments as a secretary at University Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was a volunteer for the Saline Hospital Auxiliary, the Saline Historical Society, Friends of the Saline Library, and the Turner Geriatric Center in Ann Arbor. Virginia enjoyed traveling. During her retirement, she visited Europe several times, Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico,
India, China, Africa, Peru, Easter Island and the Galapagos Islands.
She is survived by her three children: Laurence (Jeanne) Carr of Louisville, Kentucky; Bruce (Phyllis) Carr of Irving, Texas, and Deborah Brunelle of Saline; five grandchildren: Alan (Janet) Carr, Rachel (Michael) Atwell, Alexander Carr, Phillip Carr, Aaron Brunelle and four great grandchildren: Seth and Wyatt Carr and Ethan and Madeline Atwell. She was preceded in death by a sister, Leona Brewer, her husband, Hollis Carr and a son-in-law-Michael Brunelle.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Saline with the Rev. Dr. James E. Tuttle and the Rev. Laura Speiran, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Arbor Hospice
