If you love classic Dickens and love music, don't miss out on your last chance to see Lionel Bart's Oliver!, presented by the Saline Area Players at 2 p.m. Sunday at Saline High School.
The play is directed by Rebecca Groeb and her assistants, Alyssa Dawson and Mary Beth Seiler. Rob Cindric is the music director and Sara Honsowetz is producer.
Among the impressive aspects of the show is Michael Dineen, who stars as Oliver Twist. Dineen looks remarkably comfortable on stage for someone so young. Lucia Patti was also superb as The Artful Dodger.
There were so many great performances, but there are two reasons, above all, to see this show. It's hard not to love the choruses -- especially those sung by the kids. No matter where they sing, Cindric's children's choruses always spready joy. It was hard not to smile watching the scenes with Fagin's Gang and the Workhouse Kids. The adorable costumes didn't hurt, either.
Secondly, while there were many great singing and acting performances, Alan Day as Fagin, the miserly old leader of the gang of young pick-pockets, is simply must-see.
