A quick guide to the 2016 Saline Celtic Festival

The 21st annual Saline Celtic Festival will be held Friday and Saturday, July 8 and 9, at Mill Pond Park, West Bennett Street.

  • Bill Grogan’s Goat, a Detroit-based Celtic band that will also play at Saturday’s festival, will play a free concert at the Saline Main Street Summer Music Series, 7 to 9 p.m., downtown Saline, Thursday, July 7, a performance co-sponsored by the festival.
  • Pub Night, 5 p.m.to midnight, Friday, July 8, at Mill Pond Park, features Gaelic football with the Detroit Wolfetones; music from The Diggers, Nessa, and Dragon Wagon, music/dance workshops, and a sneak preview of several of Saturday’s events. Admission is $5.
  • The gates at Mill Pond Park will open at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, with opening ceremonies at 11 a.m. Festival activities will run all day until midnight.
  • Headliner musicians: Bill Grogan’s Goat, Corktown Popes, Stone Clover, Nessa, Dragon Wagon, Equinox, Brother Crowe, Peat in the Creel, Finvarra’s Wren, Roane, Blue Caledonia, and Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic.
  • Celtic performances: Tartan and Thistle Scottish Country Dancers, Ensoleil, Nutshell Trio, Damsha Ulsce Ban Mor, Ann Arbor Celtic Harpers, Commonwealth Dance Collective, Irish Dance Company of Lansing, Emerald Irish Dance Company, Dancin’ Feet School of Gaelic Culture and Dance, and Ann Arbor Morris Dance. 
  • Other activities: Wee Folks Island, Millie the Mill Pond Monster, jousting, living history re-enactors, sword play/fencing, falconry, sheep herding by dogs, Highland Athletics, pipe bands, Highland dance competitions, textile arts, merchant village, and a variety of food and drink.
  • Crowd participation events include the Haggis Hurl, Golf Chipping, Celtic Clobber and Mastodon Celtic Challenge (separate cost/registration for Mastodon event).
  • Tickets at the gate on Saturday are $15 for adults; $10 ages 65 and up; $5 ages 13-17; free for ages 12 and under, and active military.
  • Advance tickets at salineceltic.org are $10 for adults; group of 10 $80. Sales will close at 12 p.m. July 8. All tickets purchased online will be held at the festival gate at “Will Call.”
  • Pre-event tickets will also be available for $10 for adults at Saline City Hall, 100 N. Harris St., during Festival week.
  • No pets allowed.
  • Parking will be at Saline Middle School, and Liberty School; free shuttle buses run between the parking area and the festival site continuously on Friday evening, and Saturday.
