Trio Playing Stony Lake Brewing on April 22 Nominated for Five Detroit Music Awards

Award-winning musician Billy Brandt is live at Stony Lake Brewing on April 22.

Two musicians performing at the next Acoustic Routes Concert at Stony Lake Brewing on April 22 -- Billy Brandt of The Sugarees and multi-instrumentalist Jason Dennie – have been nominated for a total of six 2017 Detroit Music Awards – the Michigan-equivalent of the Grammys.

Brandt, whose rootsy, folky and sometimes psychedelic brand of alt-country has been influenced by the likes of Gram Parsons and the Grateful Dead, was nominated for Outstanding Americana Recording for the song “Moon Over My Head,” (, and for Outstanding Americana Instrumentalist, Outstanding Country Songwriter (with Maureen Hogan) and Outstanding Country Vocalist. In addition, the label he founded, Drum Dancer Records, was nominated for Outstanding Local Record Label. 

Mandolin and guitar virtuoso Jason Dennie, founder of the bluegrass trio Thunderwüde and one of the most in-demand session musicians in the state, was nominated for Outstanding Country Instrumentalist.

Brandt, Dennie and John Holk of The Sequins take the stage at Stony Lake, 447 E. Michigan Ave., Saline at 8 pm.  There is a $15 cover charge, which all goes to the artists.

Detroit Music Award winners are determined by local musicians and music industry professionals in southeast Michigan. They are the only local music awards in the nation to be presented by a not-for -profit organization.
