Saline Fire Chief Craig Hoeft said this year's Toys for Tots program will help provide Christmas for 143 Saline kids.

"We've received our list from Saline Area Social Services. There are 143 childen in Saline that need our help this year," Hoeft said at Tuesday's Saline Area Schools Board of Education meeting.

Each year, the Saline Area Fire Department collects, wraps and delivers toys to Saline Area Social Service. The agency provides the fire department with a list of kids in each age group.

The public can drop off unwrapped toys at the Saline Area Fire Department (located on the northeast corner of Michigan Avenue and Harris Street). Unwrapped gifts can also be brought to Sunday's Fiddlers' ReStrung concert at Saline High School. The annual holiday concert, which kicks off the Toys for Tots program, begins at 2 p.m.

Hoeft asked that people keep in mind older kids in the 10 to 13 age group.

"We get a lot of toys for the really young kids. But we're a little light for the older kids. So if you can remember the older kids, that would really help out," Hoeft said.

Toys collected by the fire department will be delivered to Saline Area Social Service Dec. 17. Excess toys will go to the county-wide Toys for Tots program.

People can also donate cash or checks to the SAFD Toys for Tots program.
