Praise for the Saline High School Culinary Program

The vice-chairman of the National Restaurant Association called Saline High School’s culinary program “the best I’ve seen,” according to a blog by Linda Busche on Restaurant.org.

Phil Hickey started his tour of “ProStart” schools around the country in Saline, where his nephew Tommy Hickey studies in the culinary program.

According to the blog, the ProStart program was incorporated into the design of the Saline High School kitchen.

ProStart is a nationwide, two-year program for high school students that blends the restaurant industry and classroom to help students build skills and attain real-world experience.

Student Artists Show Work at Taubman Health Center

Student artists from Saline Area Schools are displaying their work at the Taubman Health Center Gifts of Art Gallery. In this exhibition, work from young people in grades K-12 will be displayed in both 2-D and 3-D galleries. The students explore themes as presented by eight different teachers in a variety of mediums, from drawing and painting to ceramics and sculpture, are included in this exhibit.  The exhibit is on display until Feb. 4 and is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Gifts of Art Gallery is located in the Taubman Health Center south lobby on the first floor at 1500 E. Medical Center Drive, Ann Arbor.

Feature on 47-Year Teching Vet, Mary Converse

Saline Reporter journalist Jim Pruitt has the story about Saline Area Schools teacher Mary Converse, who has taught in the district for 47 years.  Converse began teaching when Liberty School was the high school.

Sheridan in Town for Pizza Bowl

AnnArbor.com sportswriter Pete Cunningham writes about Saline grad Nick Sheridan’s return home. Sheridan, a former University of Michigan quarterback, is quarterbacks coach and passing coordinator for Western Kentucky, which was in the state Wednesday to play in the Little Caesar’s Pizza Bowl.
