Saline High School senior Alyssa Cummings, captain of the regional and SEC Red champion cross country team, has committed to Ferris State University, according to running website MileSplit.com.

Cummings had been considering Grand Valley State University and Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne, according to the report.

As a freshman, Cummings helped the Saline High School girls team to its first cross country state championship. Cummings and the Hornets were second at the state meet in 2011 and third in 2012, in a race that featured the three top country teams in the country.

This spring, Cummings will run in the distance races for Saline's girls' track and field team, which is expected to be one of the best teams in the state.
