The 2013 Saline Celtic Festival is starting to take to shape.

Celtic Festival Committee member Amber Sotelo appeared before Saline City Council Monday night to provide an update on the annual festival, which takes place July 12-13. If you attended any Irish pubs within a 50-mile radius of Saline on St. Patrick’s Day, you might already know that the Celtic Festival has already lined up entertainment for Saturday.

Brother, Solas and Blackthorn are the three main entertainment acts performing Saturday.

Celtic Festival organizers distributed flyers at several Irish pubs in time for St. Patrick’s Day festivities, Sotelo told council.

Sotelo also announced a major change for this year’s festival. The annual Celtic Festival 5K run is being scrapped in favor of the Mastodon Mayhem Fun Run, which will take place at Mill Pond Park on the Saturday morning. The event is being organized by Saline Main Street and Saline Recreation.

Other attractions include the opening ceremonies, Highland Athletics, Celtic Survivor, jousting, reenactments, textile arts, the Wee Folk Island children’s area, Pipe bands, music and dance, a food fair, Merchant Village, music and dance workshops, Clans & Societies, and Millie the Millpond Monster.

Pub Night is July 12 from 5:30 to 11 p.m.

Festival day is July 13 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Children and active members of the military get in free. Youth are admitted for $5. Adults get in for $15 (or $10 in advance).
