The Saline High School varsity baseball team improved to 8-1 with Tuesday’s sweep of the Ypsilanti Phoenix.
Saline won the opener 12-0 and closed with a 5-0 victory called after the top of the fifth.
Saline swung a mean bat in the first game, stroking 13 hits in four innings. The Hornets scored five in the first and six in the second.
Pitcher AJ Korzuck allowed two hits and a walk in the five inning shutout. He fanned eight batters.
Korzuck had a big day at the plate, too, going 3-for-3 with a homer, double, four RBI and two runs scored. Michael Hendrickson was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI. John Malbone singled, doubled and drove in three runs. Joey Sweigart was 2-of-2 with a walk and two runs scored. Andrew White singled, walked and scored twice.
In the nightcap, Bryan Homberg pitched a five-inning shutout. He struck out five and walked none, giving up five hits.
Saline scored two runs in the third and three in the fourth.
Gage Hammond tripled and drove in two runs for Saline. Andrew White doubled and drove in a run. Jacob Porada was 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored. Thomas Miller walked, singled, scored and drove in a run.
