Nolla M. Irelan, of Saline, peacefully passed away at age 94 on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She was a resident at the Evangelical Home in Saline.
Nolla was born on September 2, 1918 in Litchfield, the daughter of Robert and Clara (Collmenter) Ott. Nolla graduated from Litchfield High School, attended Normal College in Ypsilanti, and graduated from Cleary College. On November 21, 1939, she married George B. Irelan, of Saline, who preceded her in death in 2010 after 70 years of marriage. They had one daughter, Anita.
Nolla worked at Universal Die Casting in Saline for 25 years retiring in 1968. She and George moved to Manton in 1969. Eventually returning downstate, they lived in Jackson and Manchester before returning “home” to Saline. Nolla loved big band music, playing the piano for her children and grandchildren, dancing, playing cards and being surrounded by her family. She was full of kindness and love for others and had limitless devotion to her husband and family.
Nolla is survived by her daughter Anita (Don) Drake; five grandchildren Michael Chantelois of Brooklyn, Patrick (Kim) Chantelois of Frankfort, IL, and Kelly Chantelois of Saline, Kerri Drake of Milan and Adam Drake of Saline; six great-grandchildren, Libby, David, Leigha, Kacie, Lauren and Brandon. She is also survived by her beloved sister Betty Torrey of Le Mesa, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial celebration of her life will take place on Friday, March 22, 2013 at noon at the First United Methodist Church, 1200 N. Ann Arbor St., Saline, with the Rev. Laura Speiran, officiating. A private burial service will take place at a later date in Deerfield.. In lieu of flowers, please honor Nolla with contributions to the Saline Evangelical Home or First United Methodist Church of Saline. Envelopes will be available at the church where friends may begin calling from 10 a.m.. until the time of service at 12:00 Noon.
