Pennsauken, NJ -- After a successful spring season with many medals and the team’s first team points trophy, Saline Crew sent two of its women rowers to New Jersey last weekend to compete in the SRAA National Championship Regatta, the Scholastic Rowing Association of America’s championships for high school rowers  This regatta included entries from 174 schools from 15 states around the country.  Liz Walsh and Alexis Wolff represented Saline High School in the Women’s Junior Varsity Double against 11 other teams that qualified at regional qualifiers across the county, including one other area team representing Skyline High School in Ann Arbor.

Saline’s event consisted of two qualifying heat races of six boats each on Friday with the top three finishers moving to the finals on Saturday. Saline finished an easy third it its heat race that included teams from Conestoga, Granby, Hillsdale, Saratoga Springs and Baldwin High Schools and qualified for Saturday’s national championship final against teams from Skyline, Conestoga, Strath Haven, Granby and Augustine High Schools.

Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate when high winds and rough water forced the cancellation of several finals including Saline’s Junior Varsity Double, which resulted in the event finishes being based on the heat race times rather than head to head racing. Saline’s Junior Varsity Double ended up a very respectable 6th in the final tally and ranked 6th in the country by the Scholastic Rowing Association of America.

The Saline Crew team will be hosting its annual Learn to Row event for 7th -12th graders on June 3-June 6, 2013 from 2:45 pm to 6:30 pm at its practice facility on Ford Lake to give potential rowers the opportunity to try the sport and row in the team’s boats. Registration is available at www.salinecommunityed.comunder Programs/Class Registration.

The fall season will start in September and any Saline High School students or incoming 2013 freshmen interested in learning more about this exciting sport and joining this exciting team can find more information at
