SHS Crew to Open Spring 2013 Rowing Season on April 13

Coming off a very successful 2012 season with Saline Crew claiming five medals at the state championships including a state title in the Women’s Varsity 4 and the Women’s Varsity Pair being ranked 17th in the nation at the USRowing Youth National Championships, Saline hopes to capitalize on the size and maturity of its seasoned team and continue its winning ways into the 2013 spring season.   

Saline’s spring season starts on April 13, 2013 in Spring Lake, Michigan at the Lubber’s Cup Regatta. Joining high school teams from Rockford, Forest Hills Central and Lowell as well as collegiate teams from the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, The Ohio State University, Grand Valley State University, Eastern Michigan University, University of Kansas, University of Illinois and DePaul University, Saline men and women’s varsity 8’s will kick off their spring season competing on a 2000 meter course hosted by the Spring Lake Yacht Club at Spring Lake, MI.

Saline will then compete in four more Midwest regattas before closing its spring season in Grand Rapids at the Michigan High School Championship Regatta on May 18, 2013. The season schedule includes:

·         Grand Rapids Regatta, Grand Rapids, MI - April 20, 2013

·         Hebda Cup Regatta, Wyandotte, MI - April 27, 2013

·         Wi-Hi Regatta, Wyandotte, MI - May 4, 2013

·         Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championships, Nashport, OH - May 10-12, 2013

·         Michigan High School Championship Regatta, Grand Rapids, MI - May 18, 2013

Saline Crew is also excited to announce that after several years of fundraising, ground is expected to be broken this spring on Saline’s new permanent home/boathouse on Ford Lake. The boathouse is a collaborative effort by public and private agencies including Eastern Michigan University,

Ypsilanti Township, Saline Crew and Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation and will include three boat bays and 5,500 gross square feet as well as parking, picnic shelter, fishing dock, picnic area over­looks, an outdoor classroom and facilities for adaptive rowing where people with physical limitations can learn and participate in this growing sport. Saline Crew and Eastern Michigan University’s women’s rowing team will share the facility for practices and equipment/boat storage.
