Two southeast Michigan authors’ plays are being featured in Canton’s 2017 One Acts Festival at The Village Theater at Cherry Hill in Canton, Michigan January 13-15, 2017.
TLC Productions is proud to announce its fourth biennial One Acts Festival, showcasing four original plays and one musical. Fifty plays were submitted from across North America and among the finalists are two Michigan playwrights.
The scripts come from 2 states (Arizona and Washington) besides Michigan: Canton’s Brion Scheidel and St. Clair Shores’ Peter DiSante. A complete list of shows, actors and play synopses follows this press release.
New for 2017 is the inclusion of a TLC original one-act musical, Behind the Curtain. This musical was last staged in 2008.
This fourth festival hosted by TLC Productions continues to serve its original mission: to bring new plays to the Canton community and The Village Theater at Cherry Hill.
“This festival is now a theatrical tradition at The Village Theater and I am thrilled that TLC Productions organizes such a high-quality production, giving emerging and established playwrights the opportunity to be showcased,” said Jennifer Tobin, Coordinator of Arts at The Village Theater. Tobin also stated, “This festival is a must-see for real theater aficionados! Supporting playwrights is critical to the future of the legitimate theatre.”
The 2017 Festival includes a play (see page 2) by author Kay Phillips, who received the Second Place Audience Choice Award in the 2013 Festival. Brion Scheidel’s play, Saving JFK, was also featured in the 2013 Canton One Acts Festival. Scheidel also wrote Life 2.0, which was performed in TLC’s StageLab24 in 2016.
Established in 2008, TLC Productions is a resident arts group at The Village Theater at Cherry Hill. In 2008, TLC Productions brought you Behind the Curtain, an original one-act musical.
