Saline Community Fair Officially Opens August 30

 08/28/2017 - 23:12

Be sure to participate in and/or watch the 2017 Saline Community Fair Parade on Tuesday evening, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Prior to the parade the Boys and Girls Pet Show and Bicycle Decorating contest will be held at Henne Field. Registration begins at 4:30 and the judging starts at 5:15 p.m.  The parade will also line up at Henne Field and then travel down Bennett Street.

If you have driven past the fairgrounds over the past two days you have seen lots of activity.  Animals are arriving, non-livestock exhibits are being entered, displays are being set up, the food wagons are being parked in their new location for the next week, and the carnival rides are being assembled. The white exhibit building and barns at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds, 5055 Ann Arbor Saline Road, Ann Arbor, were full of action on Monday as folks of all ages entered everything from vegetables to photos, collections to arts and crafts and the ever popular antiques and needlework. All entries must be in place by noon Tuesday and the non-livestock entries will all be judged Tuesday afternoon.

The fair officially opens with Agriculture Day on Wednesday, August 30 at 9 a.m. and starts off with the judging of all animals at various times. The Agriculture Day sponsor is Bader & Sons Company. The rabbit show begins at 9 a.m. and the hog show and the poultry show is at 10 a.m.  The goat show is at noon, followed by the steer and feeder calf show at 1 p.m. and the lamb show at 7 p.m.  Some fair-goers will head straight to the open show arena to watch animal judging while others will head back to the track.  The Farmstock Cement Slab Tractor Pull will take place on the track in front of the grandstand beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing throughout the day until all tractors have pulled. Carnival rides will begin at 3 p.m. and the Miss Saline Contest begins at 8 p.m. The fair is very excited to have seven outstanding young women vying for the title of Miss Saline.

There are many other activities taking place throughout the week. In addition to exhibits, inside and outside displays and animals, the Adventures in Agriculture Barn will be open all week and the Farmer for a Day activity area will provide fun for kids. Farmer John will provide three shows with animals daily from Thursday through Sunday.  In addition to the nightly grandstand shows ranging from truck and tractor pulls, a rodeo and enduro derby; Three Men and A Tenor will perform on Saturday at 8 p.m. and the Saline Fiddlers will perform at 5 p.m. on Sunday.  Area businesses will have displays throughout the fairgrounds and there will be a variety of merchant and food booths. The Beer Barn will be open Thursday through Sunday evening. Elliott’s Amusements will provide the carnival rides throughout the week and Mega Ride Passes are available at Busch’s in Saline.

Visit the fair website at www.salinefair.org for information on admission and ride prices, as well as specials for each day.  Activity details and a complete schedule are also available on the website.
