Celeste Filiatrault Flexon

On Saturday January 5, 2019, Celeste Filiatrault Flexon, loving wife, mother and Nana passed away at the age of 75. Known to her family and friends as Cissie, she was born to the late Robert and Marie Filiatrault in Cleveland, Ohio on November 19, 1943.

Cissie’s family moved to Detroit where she attended St. Scholastica and St. Hugo grade schools, Immaculata High School and the University of Detroit. She was awarded a Teaching Assistant Scholarship in the graduate program in Philosophy at the University of Toledo where she graduated. She was a successful salesperson at Mercury Printing in Toledo, Ohio for over 15 years while raising her two daughters. She then married Floyd David Flexon and traveled the world. Cissie and David lived in Belgium for five years and then moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan where they lived for 17 years. Cissie became the matriarch of the family and best Nana ever.

Cissie was the consummate hostess. She loved making family and guests feel special when visiting, from a perfectly made bed with a book to read on the bedside table, toiletries to use in the guest bath, to home cooked meals on heated plates. You never left empty handed when leaving Cissie’s. She was a perfectionist almost to a fault; spices, DVD's, and CD's were stored in alphabetical order. She was a very private person and yet interested in your life - ready to give advice and keep a secret. She loved her alone time yet loved to entertain. She especially loved having sleepovers with her grandchildren where staying up until the wee hours of the night, imaginary play, dancing to music and asking fun, thought-provoking questions were the norm. Cissie loved music, philosophy, drawing, reading and correcting the family's grammar. At Christmas, she always knew how to find the perfect gifts with at least one to make you laugh, like the slingshot flying monkeys. Cissie had a wicked sense of humor but also a strong moral compass. She was the first person to give a helping hand; open and accepting of all. She will be missed dearly.

Celeste was preceded in death by her brothers James and Robert Filiatrault. She is survived by her husband Floyd David Flexon, her siblings Margaret, Daniel (Carolyn), and Martin (Amy) Filiatrault, her children Celeste (Mark) Greenwald, Maureen (James) Cortis, and step-children Ashley (David) Brant and Robert Flexon, her grandchildren Robert and James Osenbaugh, Elise (Antonio) Jimenez, Sarah and Matthew Greenwald, Elaina and Evan Brant, and her great-grandchildren Corinna and Kiley Osenbaugh.

There will be no funeral arrangements per Celeste's request. Donations in her memory can be sent to the Homes For Our Troops at www.hfotusa.org or to the Cancer Research Institute at www.cancerresearch.org.
