The Saline EDGE opens the Saline “EDGE Too” Pop-up Store in Downtown Saline!
SALINE, Mich., – The Saline EDGE will open a pop-up store called the “Edge Too” in Downtown Saline in partnership with Saline Main Street beginning November 14th and will last through the Holidays. The “Edge Too” will be open Monday through Saturday 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. What is “The EDGE”? The EDGE is our lab for Marketing and it is the school store located in Saline High School. The EDGE is open every day from 7:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. as well as at some athletic and community events. In fact, we have sold at every home football game with the exception of the playoff games. If you hear customers ask if we're the same "people" at the games, we are! Saline High School second-year Marketing students operate The EDGE throughout the day and parents/community members can stop in and shopWhy open "The EDGE Too!"? DEMAND! Our sales have increased year-to-year since 2012. Last year sales (July through June) were approximately $65K and this year we're already over $45K. We have a niche market on Saline spirit wear for two reasons. First, the brands that we sell, primarily Under Armour and Nike, have a high school and collegiate division allowing us to put Saline artwork on their products. Additionally, customers like to see, touch and try on apparel and with our store they can do that.
Kara Stemmer, current Marketing teacher and DECA Advisor at Saline High School, “What's even more exciting is that three students have chosen to write a paper about this project and they will take it to the DECA State Career Development Conference/Competition in March. From there they have the opportunity to advance to the next level of competition to take place in Anaheim, CA in April, 2017 where they would compete against other DECA members from around the world.”
The Marketing program is part of the South West Washtenaw Consortium (SWWC) where students from Saline, Chelsea, Dexter, Manchester, Milan and Lincoln travel to Saline High School to take Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes and Marketing is one of the classes.
Saline Main Street will be providing technical and financial assistance to the opening of the pop-up store in downtown Saline. “What a great idea to connect the Saline High School DECA program with Retail downtown” says Wally MacNeil, Team Leader for Saline Main Street Business Development. “Saline Main Street’s Business Development Team sees this as a great opportunity to take an empty space and create life in this historic building downtown” says Riley Hollenbaugh, Executive Director of Saline Main Street. “Pop-up stores are more than a trend and can ignite economic development in downtown areas that are underutilized. This temporary store in downtown could bring a permanent store”
