The Summer Music Series – a free, outdoor concert brought to you by Saline Main Street continues this Thursday, August 9 at 7 pm.

This week the series features Rollie Tussing and the Midwest Territory with Stella. Award winning guitarist, educator and performer Rollie Tussing has played in concert halls, major music festivals and sidewalks all over the United States and parts of Europe.

The Midwest Territory Band was born when Rollie invited bassist Serge van der Voo (Orpheum Bell, Matt Jones & the Reconstruction) and percussionist Jim Carey (FUBAR, Magic Poetry Band) over to his home to play some music under the stairs for an audience of spiders.

The resulting noise made from the archtop instruments and vaudeville era percussion was stompingly intoxicating. Since that night the band has performed at festivals (Holler Fest and Burning Chair) concert venues (The Ark and Trinity House Theater) and recently recorded a fulllength vinyl LP. Stella is an all-female, American roots trio from southeast Michigan featuring three-part vocal harmonies, a variety of instrument voices, and original songwriting.

The band was founded by singer-songwriter Jo Serrapere (founder and former member of the band Uncle Earl), who under the guidance and patronage of Dave March (co-founder of Creem Magazine and Rolling Stone contributor) recorded and released the band’s debut album Sorry, Stella with Jen Sygit in 2011. The Stella ladies have performed at numerous folk festivals and concert series in the Great Lakes region and in March 2017, were invited to record a LIVE performance for Backstage Pass on WKAR/PBS. In fall 2017, Julianna Wilson (The Springtails) took over as the newest member of the band, replacing Laura Ann Bates on upright bass and completing the current band’s line-up.

All Summer Music Series concerts begin at 7:00pm on S. Ann Arbor St. in downtown Saline. The series is free to all guests and highlights a wide variety of cultured musicians.
