Teri Aiuto, the former Clerk of Sharon Township, will run as the Republican candidate for Michigan’s 52nd District house seat.
The 52nd District includes Chelsea, Dexter, Saline, Manchester Village, and the townships of Salem, Northfield, Webster, Dexter, Lyndon, Sylvan, Lima, Scio, Sharon, Freedom, Lodi, Manchester, Bridgewater and Saline and Ward 5, Precinct 8 of Ann Arbor.
Aiuto will be running against Democratic incumbent Donna Lasinski. The seat in the house has been occupied by Democrats since 2012.
Aiuto is a real estate broker and former owner of a lawn and landscaping company. She served as Sharon Township Clerk from 1996-2012 and secretary on the Sharon Township zoning board for 18 years.
She noted that as a former small business owner, supporting small local businesses is important to her.
“I think when people shop locally, like in Manchester, or other small communities, that really helps keep the community together, and I feel as though we need to promote that even more,” Aiuto said.
Aiuto said she supports the first and second amendments and is pro-life. She cited concerns about the state budget, the conditions of state roads, the cost of auto insurance, and the state of Michigan’s schools as some of her top concerns.
“As former Sharon Township Clerk and a concerned citizen, I wanted to go to the state level and take my concerns and voters’ concerns about what needs to be done,” Aiuto said. “I want to cut wasteful spending up there in Lansing and feel I have the knowledge and experience to get the job done,” she said.
Aiuto graduated from Manchester High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University. She and her two sons live in Sharon Township.
