Winter is winding down and Spring is in the air. Our indoor Farmers Market has just two Saturdays left before we move outdoors and downtown.

After a defensive struggle in the first half, Saline's girls varsity water polo team lost 8-0 to Dexter.

Saline's junior varsity girls' water polo team fell to Dexter, 13-8 Thursday. The Lady Hornets were down 12-4 when they scored four goals in just a few minutes to make it interesting.

Chapin Patel led Saline with four goals. Abbey Wangler scored twice. Mandy Satin and Emily Mueller also scored for Saline.

April is Autism Awareness month and Alcohol Awareness Month. It is also Counseling Awareness Month. In other words, it’s a month of bringing focus to real and possible mental disorders that affect individuals and families in significant numbers. It is also a month to increase awareness of avenues available for help.

Michigan's State Boundary Commission denied the proposed annexing of several Lodi Township properties to the City of Saline.

Boundary Commission representative Kevin O'Brien said the commission voted unanimously to deny the proposal, originally requested by Keystone Community Church and then expanded to include other Lodi Township property owners.

"We didn't feel this was in the best interest of the whole area -- especially to the landowners who were brought into the proposal," O'Brien said.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Southeast Michigan until 6 p.m. Thursday.

Thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and this evening all across Southeast Michigan, according to the weather service's hazardous weather outlook. The storms could bring damaging winds of 70 miles per hour, torrential rainfall, one-inch hail and isolated tornadoes.

The watch comes on top of a flood watch already issued, as up to three inches of rain may fall on the already saturated ground by Friday morning.

BATON ROUGE, LA (readMedia)-- Four students from Saline were granted an achievement for being inducted into Phi Kappa Phi at The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi:

TROY (readMedia)-- Steven Towell of Saline, MI, was a summer 2012 graduate who graduated from Walsh College on September 12, 2012, with a Master of Science in Information Assurance degree.

Southeast Michigan's Walsh College (walshcollege.edu), a private, non-profit all-business college that is one of Michigan's largest graduate schools of business, integrates application and theory to prepare graduates for successful careers.

The Saline High School boys track and field team improved to 2-0 in the SEC red with a 109-28 victory over Bedford Tuesday.

The first team captains meeting for the Saline Relay for Life takes place at 7:15 p.m., Wednesday, April 17 at Brecon Village.

The meeting is open to representatives of teams that have already registered to take part in this year's local fight against cancer. The meeting is also open to anyone thinking about entering a team in the Relay for Live event, which takes place June 29-30 at Crabtree Field behind Liberty School.

Saline's varsity girls tennis team defeated Detroit Country Day 5-3.

The city will try to negotiate a lower rate with Swisher Commercial or move on to a new firm after Monday's vote.

 

When it comes to the Saline City Council budget, the sky is not falling, says Saline City Councilor Lee Bourgoin.

At Monday night’s pre-meeting workshop on the city budget, Bourgoin said the city has money hidden in several line items, though not deceptively, that can help tax increases. He also said the city can improve its position with other revenue enhancements and cuts.
