Mayor-Elect Brian Marl visited recently with two of his former teachers who he says helped to shape his interest in and passion for public service. Marl was elected last week, and will begin his term of service as Mayor of Saline in January. Both educators, Ms. Pam Wickman and Mrs. Teri Bunting, still work within Saline Area Schools.

As Saline Area Social Service prepares to deliver Thanksgiving baskets to more than 100 area homes, the shelves at the food pantry are bare. Local residents can also support the agency's adopt-a-family program to help provide holiday gifts for close to 150 households.

Setting aside partisanship, members of the Saline Ministerial Association led a worship service that focused on what united them: a desire for God to guide and connect people of good faith and differing opinions to work together to solve the nation's problems.

Saline High School divers Miranda Eberle and Nikki Kermath competed in the MHSAA Division 1 Regional at Ann Arbor Huron last weekend. 

Eberle, a freshman, finished 15th with a score of 321.90. Kermath was 19th with a score of 228.70.

Both finished outside of the top 12 and missed the chance to advance to this weekend's swim and dive final.

Saline swim and dive coach Todd Brunty said both girls did well in a tough regional.

The Saline Area Fire Department extinguished a fire at Associated Spring Wednesday morning.

The department was dispatched to the scene at approximately 7:45 a.m., said Fire Chief Hoeft.

Machinery caught on fire because of a malfunctioning exhaust system. Hoeft said materials plugged the chimney and a fire started.

The department extinguished the fire. Associated Spring shut down operations for a few hours as the machinery was taken apart. Operations have resumed, Hoeft said.

Mayor Driskell honored a long-time city volunteer, the city council took a big step in an important wastewater treatment plant improvement, and the city received high marks in the audit.

During its annual self-evaluation, the board gave itself an average rating of 2.73 out of 4, which is better than minimally effective, but not quite effective.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s office says thieves stole money, credit cards and electronic equipment from a Brookview Highlands neighborhood home while the residents slept this morning.
