Carla Scruggs, Director of Saline Parks and Recreation, was honored with the Fellowship Award by the Michigan Recreation and Park Association at its conference and trade show at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa Thursday.

Jacob Learman bowled games of 237 and 232 and Chris Graber bowled a team-high 245 for Saline.

The Hornets bowled well -- and they needed just about every pin they knocked down to beat Skyline and jump back into the SEC Red hunt.

Even with Sydney Ohl bowling with the boys' team, the Lady Hornets defeated Skyline, 28-2.

In 2010 the state discontinued its subsidy on premiums for county and community fairs. This has resulted in several fairs closing and the Saline Community Fair Association has had trouble making ends meet.

The Saline Area Chamber of Commerce has made it's decision. It's signature event will be called "Saline's Christmas "Parade." The parade, most recently known as the Holiday/Christmas parade, was renamed during the chamber board of directors' annual retreat earlier this month.

Facing a tough, non-league opponent for the second straight game, Saline fell on the road to Grosse Pointe South, 3-1.

Amanda Zylstra scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Saline to a 47-12 victory over Hamtramck Monday in the Martin Luther King Shootout at Lathrup High School.

The financial position of Saline Area Schools has stabilized in the last two years, but providing an excellent education with limited funds remains a delicate balancing act. That was the upshot of a mid-year budget presentation by Janice Warner, assistant superintendent for finance, and a resulting conversation at the Saline Board of Education meeting Tuesday.

The Saline Area Historical Society's Antique Show featured everything from TIddledy Winks and wind-up Popeye toys, to ivory and Fenton glass.

Kelsey Flanagan was top scorer in the floor routine and on the beam, as Saline defeated Tecumseh and Adrian.

Starting in place of the injured Jessica Barnes, Jamie Rittenhouse made the most of the opportunity. She scored 21 point to pace the Hornets to a 58-31 victory.

The Hornets got hot in the third quarter and gained the lead, momentarily. But Skyline took over with a 10-0 run to start the fourth. The Eagles won 54-36.
