The Lady Hornets showed they can run, jump and throw against the top athletes in the state during the Golden Triangle meet at Saline High School Friday. Athletes from 31 schools competed at the event.

Junior Quenee Dale continued her fantastic season.

Dale won the 100 dash in 12.54 seconds, edging Canton-Salem’s Khyli Ray. Saline Senior Amanada Luurtsema was ninth (12.98) and freshman Autumn Godette was 14th (13.15).

The Saline Farmers Market will have 16 vendors when it starts the summer season Saturday, including a new break maker and maple syrup vendor.

The Destination Imagination teams are trying to raise $10,000 to go to the Global Finals.

Busch's Fresh Food Market and its customers will aid Food Gatherers' efforts to help feed local families.

Busch’s Fresh Food Market will help to feed the hungry during their All aBout Children Food Drive, kicking off May 6 and continuing through May 15.

Customers can purchase pre-made “Ready to Go” food donation bags filled with items to be given to a family in need. Customers are asked to donate $10 for each bag. They can also drop off non-perishable food in the Food Drive bin located in each store.


The Saline Downtown Diner entered the era of barbecue, dinner hours and Smokey weekend nights with a special party for friends and regular customers last week.

The diner, which began as a breakfast and lunch spot, is now open for dinner from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Tickets for the event quickly sold out with diner regulars easy to see what owner Jeff Tritton and Megen McCully were going to serve up at their friendly diner, located at 131 E Michigan Ave., Suite D.

Saline's varsity girls' soccer team defeated Bedford Tuesday, 4-0.

The Lady Hornets improved to 6-5 overall.

Taylor Mulder, Brianne Hovde, Kayla Kouba and Danielle Rathfon scored goals for Saline.

Saline visits Chelsea at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Saline's varsity lacrosse team (7-4) scored 7 goals in the first quarter and never looked back, defeating Bedford 20-2.

Lots of Hornets figured into the scoring.

Brett Braun and Tyler Schaefer (4 goals, 5 ground balls) each scored four goals. Tommy Hickey (3 goals, 3 assists and 2 ground balls) and Sam Ozminkowski (3 goals, 1 assists, 4 ground balls) each scored three goals. Tom Needham scored two goals and was 5-0 on faceoffs. Nick Karapas, Jay Graden, Daniel Kosek (1 goal, 3 assists, 3 ground balls) and Zach Cameron also scored for Saline.

At the Rentschler Farm Museum, all visitors with a pass will receive a 10 percent off in the gift shop.

Washtenaw Community College is offering 50 new scholarships worth $3,000 each for seniors from any high school to attend WCC after they graduate.


Saline defeated Huron 130-7 in what was very nearly not a dual track and field meet Tuesday.

The Hornets won every individual race, every relay and every field event. In fact, Saline athletes finished 1-2-3 in all but three events.

Coach Allan Leslie said it wasn’t Saline’s goal to win in such convincing fashion.

“We don’t come out here to run up the score. But we’ve got work to do. Suddenly, it’s May and we’re trying to get ready for some big meets,” Leslie said.

Alexa Ross, Quenee Dale and Randi Bennett each won two events for Saline.

Saline Hornets crew team was buzzing with its medal haul at the 2013 Hebda Memorial Cup Regatta.


NOVI - WaterScape, based in Saline, Mich., was voted Best Landscaper by show attendees at the Novi Home & Garden Show held at the Suburban Collection Showplace earlier this month.

Featured in the display were pine trees, flowers and copper birds perched for fishing Koi in the magnificent three tiered waterfall. WaterScape showcased the skill and beauty of their technique with their original display.

In other police news, a teenager avoided charges for his bogus Taco Bell order.
