So, what’s the real story behind the most popular Christmas carol, Silent Night? It was written in Obendorf, a small town in Austria. The pastor Father Josef Mohr had written the words in a poem a couple years previously. Some reports suggest that the organ was broken and for Christmas Eve, he asked the church organist Franz Gruber to write a melody. The carol was played on guitar at the Christmas Eve service that year, 1818, and sung by Mohr and Gruber.
Once Saline senior golfer Emily White broke par, she refused to look back. She got Michigan's attention by firing a four-under par 67 at the regional golf tournament held at the U of M course.

The Saline High School senior made four straight trips to the Division 1 state golf tournament and was regional champion this fall.
Early Monday afternoon there were 700 DTE customers without power in Lodi Township. DTE officials say those without power may have to wait, as crews are stretched thin to battle outages all over the Midwest after Sunday's storms.

Saline senior southpaw Michael Hendrickson made it official Thursday morning, signing on to pitch for the University of Michigan, where he plans to study biology on a pre-med track.

Michigan Avenue is closed between Mills Street and Austin Road due to a leaning utility pole. Westbound drivers were being advised to head north and take Waterworks Road to Dell Road.

Shortly before 12:30 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 13100 block of Macon Road, near Arkona Road, to extinguish a fire in a barn that had an occupied apartment. The homeowner noticed the blaze an alerted the apartment dweller to the danger.
A trip to the farmers market on a late autumn or winter day can revive one’s spirit. It affords the opportunity to see lovely homegrown or homemade products, to chat with neighbors and producers, and to take home some treasures.
Theodore C. Graban, of Saline, passed away at the age of 69 on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at his home.

Hannah Chen and Patrick Dunn were awarded scholarships at Denison University.
The Saline Post looked at 2013 meeting minutes of local governments to see who's showing up. Saline City Council topped the survey at 98 percent. Pittsfield Township was at the bottom with 84 percent.
Inspired by artists from Warhol to Kahlo, local artists present a collection of self-portraits at Two Twelve Arts Center all month. The artists reception will be held Friday night.
