Two SEC Red Rivals who split a pair of games in the regular season will meet in Friday’s Class A District Final at Monroe High School.

Saline defeated Ypsilanti Lincoln, 51-37, and Bedford defeated Monroe, 30-23, in Wednesday’s district semifinals. The Lady Hornets and Kicking Mules will meet at 7 p.m. Friday for the district championship. Last year, the Kicking Mules defeated the Lady Hornets in the district championship game at Saline.

This season, Bedford won the first matchup at Saline, 41-33. On Jan. 29, the Hornets went down to Bedford and won 40-33.

Driskell will be at the Coffee Mill in Manchester to meet with constituents from 9 to 11 a.m., March 2.

In the wake of the Newtown shootings, the Board of Education held a study session on school climate.


Students with a quality point average of 3.60 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) for a semester's work are placed on the College's Dean's Honor List.

The event is an opportunity to meet the representative, discuss local and state matters, and hear about upcoming legislative initiatives

On Wednesday night, Rep. Gretchen Driskell and other area Democratic State Reps held Listening Tour at the Washtenaw ISD building.


There were no serious injuries in a vehice-vs-semi truck crash on Michigan Avenue near Feldkamp Road just after 3:30 p.m.

Well folks I have been addressing a lot of issues and concerns in this column – parents, spouses, and colleagues, have written to ask their questions. Now its my turn to ask, and I want to ask the burning questions I’ve had since my own son started school – not high school, not middle school, just school. Thankfully I didn’t live in New York City where the Race begins in pre-school, or rather the Race starts with parents trying to get their kids into the “best” preschools.
