It was good, old fashion family fun at the Weber-Blaess One Room School last Sunday.

People gathered for the annual Old Fashion Ice Cream Social. Volunteers served up ice cream from Mickey's and hot dogs grilled by the Saline Area Fire Department. Young Olivia Helmer, she of the Braun and Helmer Auction Service, helped raise money for school house programming by auctioning off lunch with school officials and ice cream with city councillor Brian Marl.

Thursday was Preschool Day at the Saline Community Fair. The Saline Post was at the fair to take pictures of kids touring the Saline Area Fire Department fire trucks and Huron Valley Ambulance vehicles, playing games, making crafts, meeting with baby animals and having a good time.

The Saline High School girls swim and dive team opened its season by winning the Huron Relays at Ann Arbor Huron High School Thursday.

Saline, who finished second in the state last season after two straight state championships, battled against many of its SEC rivals at the Huron Relays. The Hornets finished first with 448 points. Skyline was second with 350 points.

The Saline Community Fair continues Thursday at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds.

Thursday is Preschool Day at the fair. Admission is $5 for kids 2 and up from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Youngsters can ride on the Preschool/Toddler rides in the midway from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at no extra charge.

Regular admission price of $7 begins at 2 p.m. After 2 p.m., all rides are $1.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office has no suspects in an Aug. 28 burglary in Lodi Township. According to release issued by the sheriff’s office, a resident on the 5600 block of Blue Grass Drive left his garage door open between 9 and 11 p.m. When he went out about 11 p.m., he noticed that someone had stolen a large framing nailer.

Sports

Isabella Procassini, daughter of Hilda Lopez and Russ Procassini, was crowned 2012 Miss Saline at the annual pageant held at the Saline Community Fair Tuesday night.

Tuesday, 2012 Aug 28th

Held for back-to-school fun, the Ag Olympics pits staff against each other in a series of ag-related activities.

Schools

A private service is planned. Friends may call Friday between 2 and 4 p.m.

Obituaries

The 77th Annual Saline Community Fair gets underway Tuesday at the Wasthenaw Farm Council Grounds. The fair runs until Sept. 3.

Tuesday is Family Day at the fair. Highlights include livestock judging and the annual Miss Saline Pageant. Cost to enter is $7 for people 11 and older.

Monday, 2012 Aug 27th

The 70th Miss Saline Pageant will be held at the Saline Community Fair, Tuesday, Aug. 28 at 8 p.m. The 15 contestants are all honor roll seniors at Saline High School.

Community News

What a fun time at the Weber-Blaess one room school ice cream social yesterday. It was great to see all of the families in attendance with the young and old(er) trying different activities. This is the kind of event which helps make Saline such a welcoming, friendly, family community. My thanks to all of the volunteers who made this annual event possible.
