There were no serious injuries in a peculiar car crash and fire on South Maple Road in Saline Township Tuesday afternoon.
At about 4 p.m., the Saline Area Fire Department was dispatched to the site of a car fire on South Maple Road near Saline-Milan Road. Firefighters found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. While putting out the fire, firefighters noticed the front of the vehicle was damaged and airbags were deployed, said Saline Fire Chief Craig Hoeft. It appeared the vehicle had struck a tree, Hoeft said.
But what the firefighters couldn’t find was a driver.
The Friends of the Celtic Festival was able to bank more than $8,000 after paying the city $10,000 to ensure the festival broke even.

Emily White shot a 77 to help Saline to a solid seventh place finish at the Suntel Invitational at the Birmingham Country Club Monday.
The Lady Hornets golf club came in with a score of 360 to place seventh in a field that included many of the state's top teams. Grosse Pointe South won the tournament with a score of 332.
White's score of 77 tied her for third overall. Freshman Samantha Kellstrom continued her stellar play with a score of 84. Stacy Cruz shot a 97 and Louisa Antonelli shot a 102 to complete the Hornets scoring.
The city purchased the Karpenski property in 2011 for $100,000.
A 44-year-old Manitou Beach man was transported to hospital after his motorcycle was struck Sept. 26.
Just after 5 p.m., an eastbound Mercury Sable driven by a 74-year-old Milan woman turned left into the Busch’s parking lot when it struck a westbound motorcycle
The motorcyclist did not have time to avoid the crash, according to a Saline Police report.
He was separated from his motorcycle and transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital by Huron Valley Ambulance. The woman was cited for failure to yield.

As the officers were recognized, it was pointed out that it took a taser from Pittsfield Township to end the incident without serious injury.

The nominees for Homecoming Queen are Kelly Hall, Devin Wetzel, Chelsea Leathers and Melissa Ungkuldee.
The Homecoming Court includes freshmen Brittany Raines and Matt Eby, sophomores Abby Rentschler and Logan Wetzel and juniors Laurel Budrich and Chase Campbell.
The seniors kicked off Homecoming week by winning the Powder Puff Football Tournament Sunday night at Saline High School.
The juniors might have had three of the four members of the state champion 4-by-100 track and field team, but the seniors showed why its important to respect your elders, winning 35-0 in the championship game.
Melissa Needham ran for two touchdowns, Amanda Luurtsema and Liz Gentile each ran for a touchdown and QB Randi Bennett passed to Caitlin Ellis for the other senior touchdown.
What's the hottest ticket in town? That's easy. The Fourth Annual Schools of Rock show sold 350 tickets in the first three hours Monday at Saline Community Education.
This year's event takes place at 8 p.m., Dec. 7 at Saline Middle School. Tickets are $10, which also includes admittance to the Saline Craft Show. Call 429.8020 or stop by Community Education to purchase tickets. Last year, people were turned away at the door because the middle school auditorium was at capacity.
Organizers of Saline Oktoberfest are seeking feedback about the event.
With beautiful weather and a wide variety of activities and events, Oktoberfest drew record crowds, according to organizers.
