A gift from Lindenberg, Germany has finally arrived in Saline.
Lindenberg is one of two of Saline’s sister cities - the other being Brecon, Wales. Last fall, Mayor Brian Marl and councillors Linda TerHaar and Jack Ceo were part of a delegation that visited Lindenberg.
Mayor Marl presented the gift at Monday's city council meeting. The framed piece of stained glass depicts St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church.
“It’s a lovely gift,” Mayor Marl said.
The Mayor presented Lindenberg’s Mayor with a watercolor painting by Saline artist Valerie Mann.
Officials from Lindenberg presented Mayor Marl with the gift while he was visiting, but Marl’s luggage exceeded the weight limit, so the gift could not travel with him back to America.
Officials from Liebherr Aerospace in Lindenberg shipped the gift to their Saline location and company officials arranged to have it given to the mayor.
Mayor Marl also gave his Lindenberg counterparts some of his “Brian D. Marl - The Mayor” baseball caps. They wore the caps in a picture that appeared in the town’s weekly newspaper. Marl said the Lindenberg officials were intrigued by US President Donald Trump, who is known for his brash “Make America Great Again” caps.
“Mine are better quality and they’re blue,” Marl said.
Ceo encouraged Salinians to join the Saline-Lindenberg Friendship Committee and take part in the next trip to Lindenberg. For more information, click here or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
