Two months after voting to expand the Washtenaw County Road Commission from 3 to 5 members, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners appointed two new members.
The county board selected Gloria Llamas, of Pittsfield Township, and Joann McCullum, of Ypsilanti Township, to serve on the board.
According to a news release from the county, it's the first time the road commission has had a female majority. The new members also give more representation to southern areas of the township, according to the release.
McCullum is a former social worker and educator who has served on the health department's Community Leadership Team. She's president of the New West Willow Neighborhood Association.
Llamas has worked for non-profit sectors as a communications professional and union leader.
Jason Morgan, Chair of the Board of Commissioners, said he was thrilled by the new appointments.
"These appointments are critically important, and we took considerable care to choose individuals who shared our deep commitment to community and employee engagement, quality and effective road management, and environmental stewardship. I am confident that Gloria and JoAnn will exemplify these principles," Morgan said.
