Partnering With County Saves Money on North Ann Arbor Street Project

The City of Saline approved a $50,100 bid to mill and resurface Ann Arbor Street between Woodland Drive and the City Limits.

The work is expected to take place this year.

The city worked with the Washtenaw County Road Commission to include the project in the Road Commission’s annual projects – lowering the price and reducing city staff time. Saline DPW Director Jeff Fordice originally estimated the project at $87,786.

“Their price estimate of $50,100 is significantly lower than my estimate owing to the relative simplicity of the project and the benefits of participating in a county-wide contract,” Fordice wrote in a memo to Saline City Council. There are no utilities to work around, no curbs and no traffic loops Fordice noted.

The contract was awarded to Cadillac Asphalt, which will do a two-inch mill and resurface.

According to the agreement with the county, the Road Commission will complete the project by Dec. 31.
