Alex Birkle had two goals and an assist in Saline's 7-1 victory over Huron.

Captain Alex Birkle scored twice as Saline blasted Huron, 7-1, in varsity hockey action Wednesday.

Saline outshot Huron, 68-14, and improved to 18-4-1.

Saline took a 2-0 lead in the first period. Brendan Murphy opened the scoring, with Mikhail Lozovyy and Collin Clark drawing assists. Logan Dejanovich scored on the powerplay to make it 2-0. Birkle and Connor Wright drew the assists. Saline outshot Huron 25-3 in the first period.

Saline poured it on the second period. Birkle scored from Wright and Mason Ausmus just a minute into the period. Yanek Sadek made it 4-0 when he put home a rebound on Jack Ebert's shot. Birkle made it 5-0 with 6:40 to play in the second. Murphy and Dejanovich drew the assists. Will Wynn scored with 2:23 to play in the second period to make it 6-0. Aleksander Lozovyy drew the assist. Matthew Brown scored Saline's seventh goal late in the second period. Nick Miller assisted.

The Hornets host Troy next Tuesday. Face-off is 7:45 p.m.
