Larson 5th as Saline XC Runs at Jackson

The Saline girls varsity cross country team finished eighth running in the sweltering heat at the Jackson Invitational Saturday. Saline finished with 180 points. Northville won the meet with 88.

Senior Jessi Larson was the fastest Hornet, finishing fifth in 18:34.5. Birmingham-Seaholm’s Rachel McCardell won the race in 18:13.4.

Junior Kayla Fortino was 18th in 19:25. Senior Rebecca Cantrell (42nd, 20:03), junior Emma Cummings (48th, 20:11) and sophomore Nicole Dillman (67th, 20:26) also finished in the scoring.

Katelyn Szafranski and Juliana Romero also ran for the Hornets.

On the boys’ side, Saline finished 17th with 378 points.

The Hornets’ rested many of their top runners. William Minnette was the fastest Hornet, finishing 55th in 17:21.1. Neil Garg (78th, 17:40), Jack Toor (81st, 17:43), Andrew Chen (92nd, 17:52), and Evan Bleitz (94th, 17:53) finished in the scoring. Samuel Chen and Ethan Smith also ran for Saline.

The Hornets compete in their second SEC Jamboree Wednesday.
