7-Year-Old Boy Murdered in 1935 Finally Honored With Service, Headstone

Richard Jr. Streicher, of Ypsilanti, 7, will at last be honored with a formal graveside service and his grave has finally been properly marked with a beautiful headstone.

Richard, the son of Richard and Lucia “Lucy” (Mueller), was murdered in Ypsilanti in 1935 and although there were several investigations over the years, the case remained cold. No killer was ever found. An article that appeared in the Ann Arbor News in late December of 2015 caught the attention of John Sisk Jr. John then started a Go Fund Me page to help raise money to provide a proper gravestone for the child.

Through the efforts and donations of the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home of Saline, Tina Atkinson-Kalusha of Highland Cemetery, and donations made privately, a monument was designed and placed on Richard’s grave space. An engraving of an early 1900’s sled was included since Richard was last seen sledding with his friends.

Dedication of the monument and graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Highland Cemetery in Ypsilanti, MI with Rev. Matthew Postiff officiating.
