Dorothy Jean VanDoren, of Saline, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 24, 2017 at 88 years of age.
Dorothy was born on August 2, 1929 in Ann Arbor, Michigan the daughter of Howard and Mary Ann Curd. On August 7, 1948 in Milan, she married Roger VanDoren.
Dorothy worked for a short period of time at Bell Telephone, then stayed at home to raise her five children. Dorothy was a school bus driver for Saline Schools. She then trained at Saline Hospital to learn how to administer EKG’s, retiring after several years with St Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. Dorothy was a life long member of the Newberry American Legion Post #74. She belonged to the women’s auxiliary and was a past president for four years.
Mom was a wonderful cook and truly enjoyed cooking for family and friends. She also enjoyed sewing and knitting presents for the family.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Roger VanDoren. She is survived by her 4 children, Raymond (Ruth) VanDoren of Manchester, Richard (Diane) VanDoren of Brooklyn, Jeffrey (Geraldine) VanDoren of Dexter, and Shanna Wykes of Saline; along with her grandchildren Jennifer (Luis) Duma, Roger VanDoren, Kason VanDoren, Stacey Wykes, Kyle Wykes and Dillon Wykes; great-grandchildren Ian Duma and Veida VanDoren and great-great grandchild Roman Duma. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Sandra VanDoren and daughter-in-law Julie VanDoren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her son Donald K. VanDoren, son-in-law John M. Wykes, sister Maureen (Elwin) Tag, along with her parents Howard and Mary Ann Curd. A memorial service will take place at a later date at the Saline American Legion Post #322, 320 W. Michigan Ave., Saline, MI 48176.
